AREAS OF EXPERTISE Areas of expertise: Confiscation (DTA, CJA, POCA), commercial fraud, Revenue and Customs VAT frauds, money laundering, serious sexual crimes, murder.
BIOGRAPHY Nicholas had a mixed Common Law and crime practice as a junior. In Common Law his work ranged from personal injury, passing-off, partnership disputes to employment. In criminal law he was instructed in rape, fraud and as junior in a number of murder cases.
He took Silk in 1991 and became Head of Chambers at Francis Taylor Building that year and joint Head when Chambers merged with that of Michael Boardman in November 2003. Since taking Silk he has concentrated in criminal law and has built up a defence practice in fraud, money laundering and confiscation, often being instructed in complex confiscation issues, and in serious crime, particularly murder.
He has given talks on preparation for fraud trials, serious sexual offences and the 'bad character' provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 2003. As a Recorder, he sits in civil matters in London and in the Crown Court, frequently at the CCC, where he is 'licensed' in serious sexual offences trials.
