PERSONAL INTERESTS Andrew lives in North London with his wife and 2 children, plays tennis with enthusiasm if little skill and is a “fair weather” cyclist.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE Defending and Prosecuting before both civilian courts and courts martial. A considerable part of his practice involves mentally disordered offenders and cases involving psychiatric and other expert evidence. He has long experience in sex cases, including the abuse of children. He has appeared in many cases of serious violence, including murders, and cases involving prolonged and complicated dishonesty.
BIOGRAPHY Andrew Lewis was a solicitor for several years before being called to the bar. In the last 11 years he has practiced exclusively in crime. He has taught law to undergraduates and continues to tutor on the advocacy courses run by Middle Temple
CASES OF NOTE Wardell: junior for the defence in the Nuneaton Building Society murder.
Faryab: reported case on the use at trial of material obtained by the compulsory process in insolvency proceedings.
Harrigan: leading junior in conspiracy to pervert the course of justice arising from the murder of a drug dealer.
Smith: leading junior in attempted murder arising from protracted gang rivalry.
Lewis: leading junior in attempted murder arising from stabbing of a drug dealer.
Smith: leading junior for first defendant in a conspiracy to defraud spanning 4 years.
Hysa: defended in prosecution appeal to the Court of Appeal on the question of when there is sufficient evidence to leave the issue of consent to the jury, the effect of intoxication and the use that may be made of a defendant’s lies.
Brew: defended in a 7 handed gang rape and GBH – the “caustic soda” case.
Jones: defended in a 3 month prison mutiny trial.
Miles: leading junior for the prosecution in a £1.3m theft by a solicitor and the subsequent money laundering trial.
