AREAS OF EXPERTISE Defence work including, serious violent crime, serious sexual offences including rape, serious offences of dishonesty including benefit fraud and drugs cases together with matters of confiscation. Also undertakes prison adjudications and inquests. Helen has particular expertise in dealing with vulnerable defendants, complainants, witnesses with special educational needs.
Prosecution on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service (Grade 3), the Department for Work and Pensions, Customs, the Federation Against Copyright Theft and the Probation Service.
CASES OF NOTE R v Charles Kray, 2nd Junior (Defence) in a case involving the supply of Class A drugs to undercover police officers.
R v Morrissey, junior counsel (Defence) where defendant acquitted of violent disorder in a case involving murder as a result of a successful submission of no case to answer at the close of the defence case.
R v Ravenhill, junior counsel (Defence) in biggest Class A drugs haul for Surrey Police at the time.
R v Srinavaratnarajah, prosecuting counsel in a case concerning post office counter fraud by a sub-postmaster.
R v Carter, prosecuting counsel in a multiple-identity benefit fraud spanning many years.
R v JM, junior counsel (Defence) in a case involving defendants, complainant and witnesses, all with special educational needs. The indictment was stayed on the grounds that the defendant could not receive a fair trial.
