AREAS OF EXPERTISE Matthew is a dedicated and conscientious advocate and has quickly built a strong practice since accepting tenancy in chambers. He has been instructed in all areas of crime from the most serious violent crime including murder and rape to high value confiscation proceedings associated with the proceeds of crime.
He has recently been led by head of chambers Stuart Trimmer QC on a ten count rape indictment. He drafted a complex abuse of process argument, which resulted in eight counts being stayed as an abuse. Matthew is increasingly being instructed privately. He has recently been privately instructed to advise specifically on grounds of appeal against conviction and sentence on a multi-million pound Class A drug supply.
BIOGRAPHY Before pupillage Matthew worked as an assistant to senior partners at two leading London criminal law firms. He became an Accredited Police Station Representative allowing him to represent suspects at police stations prior to charge. Matthew was also involved in a three month terrorism trial at the Old Bailey in this capacity, during which he worked closely with leading counsel Jeremy Dean QC. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5176522.stm
