AREAS OF EXPERTISE All areas of criminal defence work, including fraud, serious violent crime, robbery, possession with intent to supply, large-scale cannabis cultivation, conspiracies and public order offences, among others. Prosecute on behalf of CPS (Grade 2), DWP, Royal Mail, Probation. Regularly represent members of the Prison Officers Association at inquests held investigating deaths occurring in custody. Recently at Kingston-upon-Hull, Great Yarmouth and Wakefield Coroner’s Courts. CASES OF NOTE January - May 2009, Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court Represented Tottenham Hotspur fan charged as part of Hampshire Police’s Operation Decorum in first case of indecent chanting to be brought to the courts. Following a Not Guilty plea and several hearings, the CPS discontinued shortly before trial. Successful abuse argument re charging decision in light of limitation period. R -v- Thorpe, June 2007, Crown Court at Hove. Forklift truck driver cleared of theft of £20k worth of mobile phones from Gatwick Airport following submission of no case to answer unusually at the close of the defence case. R –v- Tully, March 2007, Crown Court at Dorchester. Acquitted of serious multi-handed assault alleged to have been committed inside HMP Dorchester. |
