CASES OF NOTE

R v GRILLO Very high profile case December 2013. Instructed by Janes Solicitors to represent one of the two sisters accused of defrauding Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi of over £600,000 while working at their home as personal assistants …the girls were alleged to have spent vast sums on lavish life styles, designer clothing, etc. The case attracted massive international media attention, focused particularly on cross-examination of Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi and their staff, which included disclosure of their relationships with their staff, their lavish life style and Ms Lawson’s use of illicit drugs. There were numerous arguments on law including an application for leave to cross examine her on her “bad  character ” which was ultimately successful after disclosure of an email from Mr Saatchi and an application to stay the proceedings as an abuse of process of the court.
